The
architectural design of the distillery reflects both the Scots and
Norse heritage.
We echo the crofting heritage with a small group of buildings
with the centrepiece Visitors Centre inspired by the ancient round
"Broch" distinctive to Shetland. These round defensive
buildings were built thousands of years ago to repel sea invaders
and are seen across the Islands.
Visitors to the distillery will be able to see all the production
processes as well as see a showcase of local Shetland produce, arts
and crafts.
There will be extensive use of wood and glass to accentuate the
local Nordic feel and make the most of the summer sunlight. Three
warehouses will be built with traditional earthen floors and will
ensure optimal moist conditions for whisky maturation on site.
The high precipitation and Catfirth Voe receiving numerous wintry gales
we expect very little, if any, evaporation of whisky to the heavens:
hence the greatly reduced angels share.
